JSTOR and Aluka Partner Up

Elisabeth Grant | Jul 30, 2008

JSTOR is an interdisciplinary digital archiveOn Monday it was announced that JSTOR (an interdisciplinary digital archive) and Aluka (a digital library of resources from and about Africa) are joining up to combine their resources and mission. Specifically they will pursue “a common vision of providing access to scholarly resources in Africa and developing a multi-national archive of materials from the Global South and North.” Both Aluka and JSTOR are currently free to academic and not-for-profit institutions in Africa, and they plan to continue to increase access both in Africa and in other parts of the developing world.

AHA Today has noted Aluka in blog posts in the past. See the January 15th post, Digital History at the Annual Meeting, on Aluka’s participation in session 196, “From Dusty to Digital,” at the last annual meeting. Or check out the more substantive post, Aluka – Free until June 2008, that highlights Aluka’s online offerings.
