The Orwell Diaries

George Orwell's Diaries in blog formThe Orwell Prize web site has unveiled a new feature: George Orwell’s Diaries presented in blog format. The introductory post appeared on the blog on July 23rd, but the actually diary posts began August 9, 2008 with Orwell’s August 9, 1938 entry. And that’s how the posts will continue, each one coming 70 years to the day from when it was originally written. The diaries include Orwell’s thoughts on politics, gardening, fellow writers, and more.

But while the new blog is an interesting and clever addition, the Orwell Prize site already had an impressive set of resources on George Orwell. See digital versions of his parody of Walt Whitman, his article on British Cookery, and some of his notes and manuscript covers. View a variety of photographs from throughout his life. Read transcriptions of some of his works, and articles on him from other authors on the Works page. You can even join the Orwell Book Club, and discuss Animal Farm, Nineteen Eighty-Four, A Clergyman’s Daughter, and more. Discover it all the Orwell Prize web site. Hat tip.
