The Eugene W.J. Pearce, MD, and Lunetta A. Pearce, MD, Fellowship in the History of Medicine is  intended to attract scholars to the Clendening Library and University of Kansas Medical Center Archives to  carry out research in the history of medicine, nursing, allied health, and related sciences. Two fellowships are granted per year, and professors, independent researchers, graduate students in the dissertation stage of their degrees, and post-graduate students pursuing advanced scholarship are all eligible. The holdings of the library and medical center archives include early modern medical books from Britain and Western Europe, original Florence Nightingale letters, 18th- and 19th-century British satirical medical prints, items related to Asian medicine, and more. Fellowships are given for a period of two to four weeks, offering $500 per week up to $2,000 to cover expenses, plus a travel stipend of $500 for scholars outside of the area.
