Grant of the Week: Fellowships from the American Research Center in Sofia

AHA Staff | Jan 21, 2011

The American Research Center in Sofia, Bulgaria, offers three programs with accompanying fellowships for the academic year 2011–12: a fall term program (September-November 2011) focusing on the history and archaeology of Bulgaria and neighboring countries, from pre-history to the present day; a spring term program (February-April 2012) focusing on the history of religion in Bulgaria and neighboring countries; and a nine-month program (September 2011-May 2012) which incorporates both fall and spring term programs. The programs combine a formal academic curriculum with independent research. ARCS hosts the programs’ lectures and seminars; organizes related study trips; facilitates opportunities for taking Bulgarian and other Balkan language classes; and provides logistical support and access to local libraries, museums, and other educational institutions. Graduate and advanced undergraduate students at educational institutions registered in North America, regardless of their citizenship, are eligible for fellowships. The fellowships will include a monthly stipend; in addition, ARCS will pay for accommodation, on-site language instruction, and travel expenses within the academic program. See the programs page online for more information. The deadline for applications is February 15, 2011.
