Grant of the Week: Bridging Cultures at Community Colleges

AHA Staff | Mar 23, 2012

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) invites proposals for projects that advance the role of the humanities at community colleges through curriculum and faculty development on the theme of Bridging Cultures (the AHA was in fact a recipient in the last round).

The NEH expects to award two to five cooperative agreements of up to $360,000 each in outright funds. Proposed projects should provide support for community college faculty and administrators to create new courses on Bridging Cultures themes or topics; design new course sequences, concentrations, and core curricula; or conduct scholarly research that will improve faculty preparation and enrich teaching.

NEH Bridging Cultures at Community Colleges projects must draw on sound humanities scholarship related to the theme of Bridging Cultures, engage participating faculty in shared readings of important humanities texts, involve appropriate humanities scholars, result in demonstrable and measurable improvements in the quality of humanities course offerings at the participating institutions, and serve as national models of excellence in addressing needs that are widely shared. Proposed projects must involve a community college or community college system and another educational or cultural institution (such as a college or university, museum, research library, or professional association or society) in the planning and implementation of the project.

The application deadline is August 14, 2012. For more information, visit the Bridging Cultures page online.
