Friday Overview – 127th Annual Meeting

Today’s main event at the 127th annual meeting is the General Meeting (8:30–10:30 p.m., La Galerie (New Orleans Marriott), featuring Bill Cronon’s presidential address and the presentation of the recipients of the AHA’s 2013 prizes and awards, including the ninth Theodore Roosevelt-Woodrow Wilson Public Service Award to Richard Gilder.

  • Matewan
    4:30 PM-7:15 PM,
    Waterbury Ballroom (Sheraton New Orleans)
    A small town in 1920’s West Virginia explodes when newly-unionized miners clash with the owners of a tyrannical coal company. Itinerant organizer Joe Kenehan arrives in Matewan to try and better the lives of the men and women of this company town, virtually owed by the Stone Mountain Coal Company, and touches off one of the most violent incidents in the struggle of American labor.
