Now Online: William Cronon’s Presidential Address at the Annual Meeting

Allen Mikaelian | Jan 9, 2013

Outgoing AHA President William Cronon delivered a presidential address at the general meeting of the Association on Friday night. AHA has the video, and an upcoming issue of the American Historical Review will have the complete text.

Cronon picked up on the theme for this year’s meeting, “Lives, Places, Stories,” to deliver an address titled “Storytelling.” Not surprisingly, the address continued several topics discussed at the president’s plenary session the night before, “The Public Practice of History in and for a Digital Age” (video here), which was also the title of his inaugural column in Perspectives on History. The presidential address also elaborates on his other columns in Perspectives, especially the much-discussed essay “Professional Boredom.”
