Announcing the Curator-Led Tours of the National Museum of American History

The National Museum of American History has organized six curator-led tours in conjunction with the offsite annual meeting workshop, Historians and History Museums, scheduled for Friday, January 3. This is a unique chance to tour the exhibits with your fellow historians and learn how a major history exhibition is researched, designed, created. The tours are part of an all-day workshop that offers an extraordinary opportunity for historians to hear from the leadership of the nation’s foremost history museums.NMOAH

Curators will lead tours of the following exhibits:

•         FOOD: Transforming the American Table 1950–2000

•         America on the Move

•         The First Ladies

•         American Stories

•         Lighting a Revolution—Electricity Hall

Tour groups will meet at the Constitution Avenue Visitors Welcome Desk on the first floor of the museum at 1:10 p.m. This will give those who attend the morning panel, History Museum Directors on the Past, Present, and Future of History Museums: A Roundtable Discussion (10:30 a.m.–12 p.m.) time for lunch on their own in the museum’s Stars and Stripes Café before the tours. Tours will end by 2 p.m. so that attendees can make it to the afternoon panel, Historians and the Work of History Museums: A Roundtable Discussion (2:30–4:30 p.m.). Both panels will take place in the Warner Bros. Theater, also on the museum’s first floor.

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History is located on Constitution Ave. N.W. between 12th and 14th St. To get to the National Museum of American History, take Metro to the Federal Triangle station. Turn right on 12th Street for one block, turn right on Constitution Ave., and then left into the entrance of the museum.
