Grant of the Week: Institute for Advanced Study, School of Historical Studies

Stephanie Kingsley | Jun 5, 2015

Every week, AHA Today showcases a new grant, fellowship, or scholarship of interest to historians that has been posted to our free Calendar. We look for grants of potential interest to a wide range of scholars, and this week we are featuring an opportunity with the Institute for Advanced Study, School of Historical Studies.

The Institute for Advanced Study, School of Historical Studies, offers scholars the opportunity to pursue their own research (for a semester or an academic year), free from teaching and other university obligations as part of a community of scholars focused on intellectual inquiry. Open to all fields of historical research, the School of Historical Studies’ principal interests are the history of western, near eastern and Asian civilizations, with particular emphasis upon Greek and Roman civilization, the history of Europe (medieval, early modern, and modern), the Islamic world, East Asian studies, art history, the history of science and philosophy, modern international relations, and music studies. Residence in Princeton during term time is required. Scholars of any nationality may apply for membership for a semester or a year. Scholars selected will be offered a stipend (if appropriate.) Extensive resources are provided including offices, libraries, restaurant and housing facilities and support services.

Residence in Princeton during term time is required. Members’ only other obligation is to pursue their own research. Eligibility requirements include a PhD and substantial publications. Further information is on the School’s website. You may also contact the administrative officer at mzelazny@ias.edu.

The deadline to apply is November 1, 2015.
