Grant of the Week: Marcus Garvey Memorial Foundation Research Grant

Zoe Jackson | Mar 7, 2018

Every week, AHA Today showcases a new grant, fellowship, or scholarship of interest to historians which has been posted to our free Calendar. This week we are featuring the Marcus Garvey Memorial Foundation Research Grant.

This grant looks to support doctoral candidates conducting primary research in the Humanities and Social Sciences on topics related to African American, African, and African diaspora history/studies. Doctoral candidates using archival collections and/or conducting oral histories are especially encouraged to apply.

Research fellows receive grants of $500 to help defray research expenses.

Decisions will be announced by May 15, 2018

While proposals are welcome on a wide variety of research topics (and in a wide variety of disciplines), proposals will be evaluated based on their relevance to key questions in the fields of African American, African, and African Diaspora Studies and on the basis of their unique contribution to scholarship.

  • 1-page description of the specific research to be carried out with the grant (single- or double-spaced), along with a line-item budget (for up to $500.00) and research timeline
