Saturday Overview – 124th Annual Meeting

Today at the Annual Meeting, stop by the poster session to check out 20 displays on a range of history topics, drop in on the AHA’s annual Business Meeting to hear reports from staff and officers, view one of the three films offered today as part of the film festival, and leave some time tonight to attend the plenary session “Marriage on Trial: Historians and Lawyers in Same-Sex Marriage Cases.” Read about all of this and more in this post. Friday Overview – 124th Annual Meeting

There’s a lot do today at the 124th Annual Meeting, from receptions, to open forums, to perusing affiliated society displays.  Stop by sessions that tackle how to interview in the history job market, use digital tools (blogs, wikis, text mining, and more) in the classroom, get an edge in finding grant funding. Discover the wide array of sessions going on today that are a part of the Historical Perspectives on Same-Sex Marriage miniconference.  Finally, end the day with the AHA’s General Meeting to hear Laurel Thatcher Ulrich’s presidential address and see AHA award winners receive their prizes. Council Approves Two New Affiliates

At its meeting today, the AHA Council approved applications for affiliation from the National Coalition for Independent Scholars and the Toynbee Prize Foundation, joining 114 other affiliated societies. Affiliates receive rooms for session and other functions at the AHA meeting (at no charge), are listed in our online Directory of Affiliated Societies, and are also invited to submit information to the “Affiliate News” column in Perspectives on History.

They Council also rescinded the suspension of affiliate status for the Ukrainian Historical Association, which was imposed in June 2009.

Thursday Overview – 124th Annual Meeting

Today, Thursday, January 7, 2010, is the first day of the 124th Annual Meeting of the American Historical Association. The theme this year is “Oceans, Islands, Continents.” See the online Program for a complete list of sessions.
