The Huggins-Quarles Award is given annually, by the Organization of American Historians, to one or two graduate students of color at the dissertation research stage of their PhD program. This award is named for Benjamin Quarles and Nathan Huggins, two outstanding historians of the African American past. To apply, students must submit a five-page dissertation proposal, along with a one-page itemized budget explaining travel and research plans. The deadline for applications is December 1, 2009.
