Grant of the Week: Innovative Strategies in Community Colleges

The Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education, of the U.S. Department of Education, supports innovative grants and cooperative agreements to improve postsecondary education. Grants are being offered for projects that propose innovative strategies to benefit working adults and displaced workers who are pursuing degrees or credentials in community colleges. Projects may include, but are not limited to, activities that improve: academic remediation; tutoring; academic and personal counseling; registration processes; students’ course selection and scheduling; instructional delivery; student support services related to childcare, transportation, or educational costs, such as textbooks; and career counseling. Applicants should focus on meeting the unique needs of community college students and adult learners and preparing them for high-growth occupations and to meet employer needs. For more information see the Innovative Strategies grant program page and the related applicant information page. The deadline for applications is August 4, 2009.
