Guidelines for Job Offers in History

By Elisabeth Grant

In case you missed it, the recent March issue of Perspectives contains an important statement on Guidelines for Job Offers in History, created by the Professional Division and approved by the Council at the 2007 Annual Meeting in Atlanta.

The Guidelines address the rights and responsibilities of both department chairs and candidates. A key element in this statement is the need for timeliness. The department chair “is responsible for making a clear, timely offer,” while the candidate “has the right to a reasonable amount of time… in which to make a decision.” Read the complete statement on rights and responsibilities in regard to job offers in the March issue of Perspectives.
