What We’re Reading: March 5, 2009 Edition

iPod tour of historic Washington DCThis week we start off with the revelation that the CIA has destroyed 92 interrogation tapes, verifying a fear the AHA expressed in 2008. Then, Tony Grafton takes a look at graduate school past and future, a history professor is interviewed in the Freakonomics blog, the LOC unravels the origins of the automobile, and a new audio tour explores historic D.C. Finally, we link to a number of articles for a section we’ve titled “History in Hard Times.”

Thanks for covering the closure of the Oregon Historical Society Research Library. If anyone is interested in showing support for the library and it’s staff, there’s a petition at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/Save-the-OHSRL-and-staff and a Facebook group, “Save the Oregon Historical Society Research Library and Staff” with more information and news.
